Pianoo
PIANOo, the Dutch Public Procurement Expertise Centre, was set up to professionalise procurement and tendering in all government departments, and to improve efficiency and compliance in this field. PIANOo brings together procurement and tendering experts, actively accumulates and distributes knowledge and experience, and provides advice and practical tips. The Expertise Centre also fosters dialogue between public contracting authorities and private sector companies. PIANOo works for and within a network of around 3,500 public procurement and tendering professionals and is part of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. PIANOo organises meetings, issues publications and facilitates expert groups chaired by leading academic professionals in the field. Key themes for PIANOo at the moment are the position of procurement within organisations, innovation-focused procurement, innovative procurement and sustainable procurement. The Ministry of Economics, Agriculture and Innovation enhances the innovation of public procurement, focusing on the need for long-term strategic procurement and on opportunities to act as a leading customer influencing the market. One of these opportunities is the Small Business Innovation Research Programme (SBIR), a programme that allows private enterprises to develop prototypes to fulfill long-term procurement needs.
