4. Value Chains of tomorrowThe Dockwise case International competition is changing traditional business models of companies. Rather than selling products, companies today offer complex, customized solutions to a wide range of international customers. As an example may serve here Philip Lighting, which used to sell only lamps to distributors; today it offers integrated lighting solutions to municipalities and cities, which are installed, maintained for a number of years , and financed by Philips Lighting. Obviously, these integrated, value propositions cannot be offered by one company. Rather, companies need to seek partnerships with service and finance partners. This poses new challenges to purchasing and supply professionals. During this workshop we will show how Dockwise, the Anglo-Dutch leader in maritime heavy transport, outsourced its entire shipping management of its highly specialized heavy-duty vessels to one global partner. Our case discussion concerns how to create alignment between Dockwise and its service partner. Next, we will discuss the future rol of purchasing and supply managers in complex outsourcing deals. The workshop will be presented by Wouter Crul, prof dr Arjan van Weele and Mr. Andre Goedee, CEO Dockwise |
