Biography
He studied Business Adminstration in Groningen and started his career in consultancy. In 1990 he changed over to journalism. He worked as an editor for the Dutch newspapers Het Financieele Dagblad and Het Algemeen Dagblad, and in 1998 he became the editor in chief and publisher of FEM/De Week. Furthermore he was a university teacher Postdoctorale Opleiding Journalistiek (Postgraduate Education Journalism) at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and in various capacities he participated in television and radio programmes. Meanwhile, his book 'Het Drama Ahold?\' is already in its eleventh edition. In 2005 the book was awarded with the prize 'Managementboek van het jaar? ('Management book of the year') and in 2006 with the prize 'Het meest journalistieke boek van 2004-2005' (The most journalistic book of 2004-2005'' ). In 2007, when the Dutch bank ABN Amro lost its independence, Jeroen Smit decided to write a book about the bank. This new book, 'De Prooi: Blinde trots breekt ABN Amro', was nominated for the prize 'Managementboek van het jaar' in 2008. Meanwhile no less than 200,000 copies have already been sold, which makes the book an absolute bestseller. In November and December of 2010 he starred as host of the TV-series “Leaders Wanted” . In that program Jeroen Smit was looking for answers on the question: what kind of leadership is needed in the 21st century?! Jeroen Smit travelled the world and asked prominent leaders / thinkers as Jeroen van der Veer, Fabio Barbosa, Neelie Kroes, Henry Mintzberg and Anselm Grün what kind of leadership is requires for this century. On 1 September 2011, Jeroen Smit was appointed professor of Journalism at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen. Jeroen Smit regularly acts as honorary chairman and presenter. |
